April and C-section Awareness Month

Welcome to April Forever Hope Family!

May this be a month of new opportunities, a month without setbacks, a month of answered prayers, and a month free from heartache or fear.

May you experience easy pregnancies, receive the joyful news of your rainbow baby, celebrate finally being pregnant, or bring your NICU babies home. May this be your month!

April is especially meaningful to me, as I celebrate my son’s 5th birthday. He is my inspiration for this entire journey. His life began through an emergency C-section that saved him ... and fittingly, April is also C-section Awareness Month.

This month highlights advocacy to reduce unnecessary C-sections, while honoring the many lives saved by necessary ones. I am not a medical professional, so this is simply my perspective. I had hoped for a natural birth, but my body had other plans. My experience was painful, and recovery was excruciating. Yet every woman’s journey is different as some heal quickly, others face complications, and some struggle with lasting effects.

What I find most offensive is the phrase “the easy way out.” A C-section is anything but easy. It is major surgery: seven layers of tissue are cut, organs are moved, and everything must be carefully repaired. Risks exist for both mother and baby, and recovery requires monitoring.

Still, I will forever be grateful, because my C-section saved my child’s life. To all C-section mommies: carry your scars with pride. They are part of your story, and your babies story. We couldn’t go natural, and that is okay.

Share your C-section stories, mommies. Let’s honor them together.
